Wrexham, Wales – October 30, 2024 – In a groundbreaking moment for Welsh women’s futsal, FC United of Wrexham Women’s Futsal Team has made history by becoming the first-ever champions of the NEWFA Women’s Futsal League. This landmark achievement may also mark them as the first Welsh women’s team to capture a domestic futsal league title in the whole of Wales, showcasing the tremendous progress and passion within Welsh women’s futsal.
The decisive, title-clinching goal was scored by Leah Davies, a standout forward and former Everton trialist, in an electrifying season finale. Led by head coach Gareth Jones, who has dedicated over a decade to nurturing women’s futsal talent, the team demonstrated remarkable dedication, skill, and an indomitable spirit.
Head Coach Gareth Jones praised his team’s efforts, saying:
“These players have earned a place in history. Their commitment and heart both on and off the court are unmatched. To bring home the first-ever Welsh women’s futsal title is an honor beyond words.
