MATHEMATICS – KS3 NATIONAL TESTING

National tests are compulsory for all Welsh pupils from years 1 to 9. Last year, there were signifcant changes to the national numeracy tests. The Welsh Government evdevour to make all national testing online over the next 3 years, and this began last year with the procedural numeracy test. This test is accessed via Hwb.gov.uk during the school day and are scheduled in advance. Reasoning tests remain paper based for this academic year, changes will come into place summer 2021 for them to be accessed online also.

Year 7 at Ysgol Rhiwabon are taught a numeracy lesson as a part of our maths scheme of learning, in preparation for these tests. For all of KS3, there are weekly form time activities to support numeracy also.

The data gained from national testing informs us of strengths and weaknesses of individuals as well as the cohort; in line with their regular maths tests we track progress and working grades.
