Ysgol Acrefair – Pupil’s Poster Wins Cefn Community Council’s #StayOnSide Project Competition
Cefn Community Council is delighted to announce that Poppy, a pupil from Ysgol Acrefair, has been named the winner of this year’s #StayOnSide Community Project poster competition.
Poppy’s poster, focused on raising awareness of dog fouling, was selected by the Council’s Development Committee and ratified by Full Council as the winning design. Her poster will now be proudly displayed at all 12 Dog Fouling stations across Cefn, Acrefair, Cefn Mawr, Plas Madoc, Newbridge and Rhosymedre.
The competition formed part of Ysgol Acrefair’s involvement in the #StayOnSide programme, which continues to inspire community engagement across North Wales.
Poppy expressed her surprise and pride at being selected, saying:
“I was in disbelief that my poster was chosen over the other brilliant ones in my classroom. I’m really proud that my work will be seen by so many people in our community.”
Chairman of Cefn Community Council, Cllr Phil Vaughan, praised Poppy’s achievement:
“This project shows how our schools and communities can work hand in hand. Poppy’s poster will leave a legacy across our villages, reminding everyone that small actions like picking up after your dog make a big difference. She should be very proud.”
Community Development Officer and #StayOnSide programme creator, Andrew Ruscoe, added:
“In nine years of delivering #StayOnSide, it has gone from strength to strength. Never in my life did I imagine it would be rolled out in other councils such as Llanelli Town Council or leave a lasting mark here with dog fouling posters displayed next to our stations. It is more than an honour. This project brings pride to the community, and thanks to young people like Poppy, her family will now have miles of memories every time they walk past these stations with pride. I hope this achievement also inspires other Community Councils and agencies to enquire about #StayOnSide, as I would love to see the project delivered across Wrexham and Wales to help tackle antisocial behaviour, reduce isolation, increase physical activity, and ultimately keep our streets clean.”
Cefn Community Council would like to congratulate Poppy on her fantastic achievement and thank Ysgol Acrefair for their continued support of the #StayOnSide programme.
