The famous ‘Doctors’ Steps’ in Cefn Mawr

In a fantastic show of community spirit, Councillor Sonia Benbow-Jones has volunteered her time alongside the council’s expert Groundsman, Huw Parry, to clear overgrown weeds and hedges that were engulfing parts of Cefn Mawr village.

Their efforts focused on the historic steps next to the doctors’ surgery on Crane Street, which had become overrun and hazardous. Thanks to their hard work, the village steps are now a little safer and clearer for everyone to use.

They also trimmed back the hedge next to the electrical shop on Crane Street, restoring a tidy and welcoming appearance to the area.

Councillor Benbow-Jones said, “It is important to keep our footpaths safe and clean as they are an important part of our history. When the weather is warm like it was today, it is good to be outside doing something positive and giving back to the community.”

Community Development Officer Andrew Ruscoe added, “Councillor Sonia Benbow-Jones is a remarkable lady who is a massive credit to the community. She works tirelessly for the community in all weathers, which is nothing but heartwarming. I hope when I am in my 80’s that I am still active just like Sonia. She is a role model. Plus, Huw is a fantastic gentleman who gives his all every week. Two incredible people who I think a lot of.”

Councillor Benbow-Jones’s voluntary work demonstrates her genuine commitment to the community, going above and beyond her official responsibilities. Meanwhile, Mr Huw’s expertise ensured the job was done thoroughly and professionally.

This teamwork has made a real difference to Cefn Mawr, highlighting the power of local pride and collaboration.
