On Friday 19th November, Member of Parliament for Clwyd South, Simon Baynes MP, visited Ysgol Rhiwabon and was given a tour of the school by the Headteacher, Mrs Melanie Ferron-Evans.
During the visit, Mr Baynes met staff members, including Giles Evans, Sandra Tarver and Dave Terhorst, and visited several classrooms where a range of different lessons were taking place. He also met with Miss Wild and students from years 9-11 to discuss the fundraising they were organising for Children in Need and Hope House, including a Dragon’s Den style enterprise and employability challenge. In addition, Ben Jones told Mr Baynes about his speech by Zoom in October to the Senedd as part of the Young People’s Voice in Governance scheme.
The Headteacher, Mrs Melanie Ferron-Evans, said:
“We appreciate Simon Baynes MP visiting Ysgol Rhiwabon. He spent a lot of time talking to students and supporting staff in their work. Visitors to school help to broaden the experiences of our students and it provides them with the opportunity to showcase their pride in our school. We look forward to welcoming Simon Baynes MP to one of our school council meetings in the new year”.

“It was a great pleasure to visit Ysgol Rhiwabon and to speak with students and staff members about the wide range of academic and other activities that take place in the school. I was very impressed by the students’ cheerful and committed approach to their studies and extra-curricular activities and by the professionalism and care of the staff. I would be very pleased to follow up the Deputy Head Mr Bingham’s suggestion to come back in the New Year and speak to the School Council. I am not surprised that the school, with its busy timetable and beautiful, spacious grounds in the heart of Ruabon, is going from strength to strength!”
