FREE CHRISTMAS DINNER ON CHRISTMAS DAY

For many, Christmas is a time of joy, warmth, and togetherness, but for some, it can be a stark reminder of loneliness and isolation.
This year, local resident Gareth Williams is determined to change that.
On Christmas Day, he’s inviting the community to a FREE Christmas Dinner, hosted at the Cefn, Rhosymedre & Newbridge Community Association (CRNCA).

The event, held at The Old Canteen, Cefn Mawr Activity Centre Community Centre, Cefn Mawr, LL14 3PA, will run from 12:30 PM to 4:00 PM, offering a space filled with festive spirit, delicious food, and good company for those who might otherwise spend the holiday alone.

Gareth’s inspiration for the event comes from a deeply personal place.

“I know from personal experience how lonely and isolating Christmas can be for some people,” he says. “This is meant to be a season of joy, but for many, it’s a time of sadness, isolation, and even hunger. I want to change that, even if it’s just for one day.

Hosting free Christmas dinners is my way of giving back to the community, ensuring no one has to feel forgotten or go hungry at Christmas.

Everyone deserves to feel warmth, connection, and kindness, and my hope is to create a space where no one feels alone this holiday season.”

A Community Effort

Gareth’s vision has inspired an outpouring of support from the local community. The CRNCA stepped forward to provide the venue, with its representative, Krissy Morrison, emphasising their commitment to the cause.

“When Gareth approached us with his idea, we were moved by his determination and compassion,” says Krissy. “The CRNCA is proud to provide the venue for such an important event. We’re honored to play a role in bringing the community together and making this Christmas special for everyone.”

To ensure that even those unable to attend in person can enjoy a festive meal, Community Agent Donna Thornley has offered to deliver dinners.

“We know that not everyone can make it to the event, which is why I’m offering a delivery service,” Donna explains. “It’s all about making sure no one is left out. This small act can mean the world to someone who might otherwise feel forgotten on Christmas Day.”

The initiative has also garnered the support of the Cefn Community Council, Chairman Phil Vaughan, reflects on Gareth’s dedication:

“We felt it was important to support Gareth’s vision after listening to his story. The positive contribution he wants to bring to the community is heartwarming. On behalf of Cefn Community Council, we are so grateful for his efforts in making this event a reality. It’s gestures like these that truly embody the spirit of Christmas.”
