Cefn Mawr’s ‘Volunteer Superstar’ Kristyna Morrison: The Heart and Soul of the Community’s Luncheon Club
Celebrating Over 40 Years of Unmatched Dedication and 27 Years as Chair of CRNCA
In the heart of Cefn Mawr, Kristyna “Krissy” Morrison has become a true local legend—a “voluntary superstar” whose kindness and commitment have transformed her community. For over 40 years, Krissy has devoted her life to making a difference, from volunteering in Wrexham nursing homes to leading the Cefn Mawr, Rhosymedre & Newbridge Community Association (CRNCA) as Chair for an incredible 27 years. She has created a legacy of compassion, dedication, and love for the people of her hometown.
Every Wednesday at noon, the doors of the Old Canteen on Plas Kynaston Lane open to the warmth and welcome of Krissy’s Over 50’s Luncheon Club. For nearly two decades, this weekly event has been more than just a meal; it’s a celebration of community, laughter, and friendship. Here, Krissy serves up her signature two-course lunches and delicious desserts, all for just £3.50, with dishes like hearty sausage, cheesy potatoes, and beans, followed by homemade cakes that have become local legends in their own right. More than 25 residents and carers gather each week to enjoy the meals Krissy lovingly prepares—a lifeline for those who might otherwise feel isolated.
In January 2024, Cefn Community Council’s Community Development Officer Andrew Ruscoe joined forces with Krissy, and he has been deeply moved by her impact.
“Krissy isn’t just a volunteer—she’s an inspiration. Her generosity, her tireless spirit, and her genuine love for this community are extraordinary. Working with her has been one of the most touching experiences of my career,” Andrew shared. “Krissy is proof that one person’s kindness can truly change lives.”
Phil Vaughan, Chairman of Cefn Community Council, echoed these sentiments: “Kristyna Morrison is nothing short of a community hero. Her work has touched the lives of so many, from the friendships she fosters at the Luncheon Club to the endless hours she gives to make her community a better place. Krissy has brought warmth, laughter, and joy into the lives of those who need it most. She’s the heart of Cefn Mawr.”
Despite her legendary status, Krissy is still looking for volunteers to help with the Luncheon Club as it continues to grow. Assistance with kitchen tasks, cleaning, and table setup would go a long way in allowing her to welcome even more of Cefn Mawr’s residents each week. She’s also on the lookout for mug donations to serve every guest their much-loved hot drink.
