On Friday May 18th, twenty Year 7 students were given the opportunity to take part in a local World War One event, held in the George Edward’s Hall, Cefn Mawr.
The group experienced trench food made outdoors, of corn beef, potatoes and bread. They also held numerous weapons that were used in 2016, and heard about the conditions faced by soldiers on the front line between 1914 and 1918.
Mrs Vanessa Wright-Davies, Curriculum Leader for History, said:-
‘It was a fantastic experience for some of Year 7 pupils to see, and actually hold, many items from this period in History’.

Simon Jarman, MBE, who presented the talk, has since written a letter to the schools whose pupils attended. In the letter, he is very complimentary about the pupils’ demeanour, attitude, and discipline. In fact he describes them as “just down right great children”! Read the text of the letter, here.
