Ysgol Rhiwabon commenced its seasonal programme on December 8th with a charity concert to raise money for Hope House Childrens’ Hospice.
At an overflowing Methodist Church in Ruabon, where even standing room was non-existent, the students of Ysgol Rhiwabon, under the musical production of Mrs Sandra Tarver, gave an ‘Evening of Song and Cheer’.
There were performances from over 25 students ranging from solo singing and choral recitation, to girl groups, piano, wood and brass recitals.
Some notable performances on the night were,
Antonia Mills – Yr. 11 – Panis Angelicus vocal solo
Sophie Williams – Yr. 10 – All I want for Christmas is you.
Tom Sinclair and Alex Gallagher – Merry Xmas (War is over)
Mrs Sandra Tarver, Curriculum Leader Music said,
“Over £250 was raised for Hope House Childrens’ Charity on the evening, which was an excellent achievement. The students’ performances were a credit to them and every performance was of the highest quality”.
Mrs Melanie Ferron-Evans, Headteacher, in her closing address, said,
“Credit must be given to the students’ performances tonight. They were of the highest order, and reflect the work our Music Department, led by Sandra Tarver, undertakes.
As a school steeped in the local tradition of song, we should all be very proud of what we witnessed here tonight; and that money raised will support Hope House”.
