Ysgol Rhiwabon Talking Newspaper Team

The Talking Newspaper team is made up of a group of Ysgol Rhiwabon pupil volunteers.

Individual members are chosen for their commitment and ability to work in a team.

Every Friday, the team records their reading of the news from the Wrexham Leader onto a master tape.

This is then copied onto cassettes, and distributed free of charge by the Post Office to almost 100 visually impaired recipients.

Copies are sent locally, and also to Oxford and Northampton.

"Quiet, please! - Recording taking place!

In 2007, the team won the Rotary International's "Rotary Young Citizen Award".

The Rotary Award is given for work in the community, and the team was nominated for the award by Llangollen Rotary Club.

The team was invited to the BBC studios in London for a tour, and visited the News 24 studio.

The team members are: Sean Edwards, Katie Mellor, Celine Lawrence, Simon Layhe, and Jack Lloyd.

The team were recently visited by Mr. Dennis Lawrence, the ex-Wrexham footballer. You can read about his visit here.

Letters of thanks are regularly received from recipientsof the tapes. A selection is displayed, here, on this website.
