Staff

There are six members of staff in the science department:-


Mr. M. Leather
Mr. Leather is a Senior Teacher.  He teaches Chemistry and politeness!. He has taught at Ysgol Rhiwabon for a very long time!

Mr. Leather is originally from Birkenhead.  He went to Manchester University where he studied for a degree in Polymer Chemistry.  He then went to Lancaster University to complete his PGCE in Science & Games.

Mr. Leather runs a lot and takes part in mountain marathons.  He enjoys playing 5-a-side football and watching his beloved Liverpool FC and the mighty Shrewsbury Town FC.




Mr. J. Loynes
Mr. Loynes teaches Biology.  He has been at Ysgol Rhiwabon for 1 year.

Mr. Loynes is originally from Walsall, but was raised in Queen's Park, Wrexham, where he learnt his streetwise skills!  He went to Liverpool University where he studied for a degree in Applied Biology, specialising in freshwater ecology.  He completed his PGCE in Biology at Liverpool University, before completing a masters in curriculum studies at the University of London.

Mr. Loynes enjoys mountain biking, walking and table tennis.  He is also a dab hand at painting, photography, classical guitar playing and huge DIY projects.



Mr Gordon on Shrewsbury Weir
Mr. J. Gordon
Mr. Gordon teaches Biology, Physics and Technology. He is also the Expedition Supervisor for the Duke of Edinburghs Award at the school. He has taught at Ysgol Rhiwabon for 7 years.

Mr. Gordon is originally from Yorkshire. He went to the University of Aberdeen where he studied Forestry Management and passed a range of Mountain Leadership and Rock Climbing awards. He then went to Bangor University to complete a PCGE in Biology.

Mr. Gordon most loves being out in the more remote areas of mountains or rivers. He has a particular interest in expedition skills and continues to work as an outdoor instructor and expedition leader for expedition companies during the school holidays.He also trains expedition leaders for the Wrexham Duke of Edinburghs Award Scheme and is the Chairman of the Wrexham DofE Advisory Panel . He has recently focussed on open canoeing and has passed coaching awards to allow him to instruct canoeing and lead canoe expeditions.

Mrs. Thomas is the Learning Support Assistant attached to the Science Department
