| Mr. Ngubelanga's visit |
||
Ysgol Rhiwabon recently welcomed a South African Headteacher into the school to observe classes, talk to children and staff and generally gain an insight into our educational system.
Luvuyo Ngubelanga is the Headteacher of Kwanfundo Secondary School in Khayelitisha, a black township outside Cape Town. It was the first ever visit outside his native country for Mr Ngubelanga and during his time he was hosted by various staff of the school and experienced his first ever first-hand contact with snow! His visit was concluded with a farewell assembly in which students performed various musical and dramatic pieces and made presentations to our visitor. Learning about education and life in a totally different environment has also proved most valuable to staff and students. This visit was a follow-up to Mr Leather’s excursion to Cape Town last July. The next phase sees our Head of English, Mrs Malanie Ferron-Evans making the journey to South Africa to co-ordinate a project which will see students of both schools combining to produce a joint book of poetry. Longer term possibilities of more staff and students making exchange visits are being considered. You can see a photo gallery of Mr. Ngubelanga's visit here. |
