Plas Madoc Communities First - Visit to the Gambia

In January 2008, Plas Madoc Communities First took a group of 8 youngsters (most from Ysgol Rhiwabon ) on a cultural-educational trip to The Gambia.

The Jan 2008 Trip to the Gambia

Following January’s successful trip, Plas Madoc Communities First are offering more young people the chance to travel on a trip of a lifetime to take part in The Gunjur Project in The Gambia this November.

The trip is open to Plas Madoc Residents aged 14-20, but other Ysgol Rhiwabon pupils are welcome to register their interest in case extra places become available.

Jeeps are tough in the Gambia
Successful applicants will be expected to help plan the trip and fundraise towards it. On the trip itself, the group will spend a week in secure accommodation in The Gambia and will complete a different activity each day, including visits to local schools, fishing villages and houses, the chance to handle Gambian reptiles and walk with wild monkeys, as well as drum and dance workshops. They will learn all about life in The Gambia, and be encouraged to try and understand global cultural differences, whilst focusing on the opportunities which we have in our society.

For more information, or to register interest, please see Mr. Leather at School, or speak to Clare Barnes or Ben Leather at Communities First (01978 813910). There is more info available at http://www.plasmadoc.org/news_pmcf.htm , and application Forms are available from The Opportunity Centre, Plas Madoc (open daily 9am-5pm).
