• Choose subjects you are good at
• Find out which subjects you need if you have a chosen career in mind
• Keep your options open by making a balanced choice
• Talk to your Careers Adviser

• Choose a subject because your friend is taking it
• Reject a subject because you think it’s ‘for girls’ or ‘for boys’
• Choose or reject a subject because you like or dislike a teacher
• Choose a subject only because you think it will be easy
• Choose a new subject without finding out more about it
• Decide at the last minute
It’s always better to explore all of your options so that you can make a decision that’s best for you.
Options include:
• 6th Form
• College – (apply as early as possible)
• Apprenticeships – (it is up to you to find a company to take you on)
• Employment
• Setting up your own business
• Studying or working abroad
• Youth Gateway
• Skill Build
• Help to choose the right course and place to study
• Help to re-consider your options
• Access to the latest Higher Education courses and job/training vacancies
