Extra Curricular Clubs Activities |
This is an excerpt from the report to the Governors concerning extra-curricular clubs activities:- A full programme of football fixtures took place during the year. School teams played at all age groups. Year 7 were 2nd in the County League, year 8 were 2nd, year 9 were 3rd and year 10 were 3rd. All schools in the County were represented. Inter-form and Inter-house competitions were held during the year. Several boys were selected to represent Wrexham Schools during the year and 6 boys from the school have currently signed with Professional Clubs. Regular netball fixtures were held against all other schools in the county. Netball Clubs met during lunchtimes for practices. Inter-form and Inter-house competitions were held during the year. Gymnastic Club met once a week during the Autumn and Spring terms. Pupils were working towards a national award. Rounders Clubs met weekly. Wrexham Schools' tournaments attended. Year 12 Sports Leaders organised a tournament for feeder Primary Schools on site. A very successful programme of outdoor activities took place during the school year. Pupils from years 7, 8, 9 and 10 took part in a range of activities including climbing, mountain biking, canoeing, hill walking and orienteering. Year 9 and 10 students attended a residential course at Nantyr Outdoor Education Centre. The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme has been in operation throughout the year. Students have developed their skills in a number of areas and an overnight expedition was held during the summer term. The school has had tennis teams across the age ranges. Year 7 and 8 girls, year 7 and 8 boys and year 9 and 10 boys teams have all competed in the county league. One pupil has been selected to represent the county. Cricket Clubs have been held during the Summer term fixtures are being arranged against other schools. 3 pupils have represented North East Wales and 2 have represented Wales. Hockey has not taken place as an extra curricular activity but 1 student has been selected to represent Wales. Athletics Clubs have been meeting during the Summer term. Boys and girls teams represented the school at all age groups in the County Championships. Several students have been selected to represent the County in the North Wales Championships. School Cross Country was held earlier in the year. As a result boys and girls teams were selected to compete in the County Championships at all age groups. 2 pupils were then chosen to represent the County in the National Championships. The school continues to work on a centre for the PESS initiative. Much good work has been done during the year – most notably developing gymnastics schemes of work for our feeder schools. |
