A Wooden Pencil Case With A Clear Acrylic Top
Individual Parts

Here is a series of 7 tutorials that shows step by step how each part of the pencil case is constructed. Click on the image of the required part to run the tutorial.

If you have a slow connection to the internet you may
prefer to "right-click" on the images, and choose "save
target as...". You can then save the flash tutorial file to
your hard drive, and view it at your leisure.

Base
The bottom of the pencil case measures 250 x 70 x 4mm, this tutorial uses the basics of drawing a rectangle, dimensioning it and extruding to create a 3D model.

Side
The side of the pencil case measures 240 x 10 x 40mm, again this tutorial uses the basics of drawing a rectangle, dimensioning it and extruding to create a 3D model. Although the pencil case uses two sides, only one needs to be created as it can be used twice in the assembly

End
Both ends of the pencil case are constructed out of a block masuring 70 x 40 x 25mm. Again it starts with the basic construction, but a second sketch is created to draw rectangles which are then extruded beneath the workplane subtracting material to make two 10 x 20 corner rebates which form the corner joint. Unlike the sides the end needs to be saved twice as one end is different to the other with a hole for the screw created in it.

Hole in End
This tutorial starts with one of the ends created in Tutorial 3. A new sketch and a construction line is created on the top surface and a circle drawn in the centre of this surface is used to insert a blind hole.

Tops
Both pieces used for the top of the pencil case are constructed in this tutorial. Only one sketch required but lines are deleted to form the angled edge of each piece.

Hole in Top
This tutorial starts with the larger of the top pieces created in Tutorial 5. A new sketch and a construction line is created on the top surface and a circle drawn in the centre of the construction line is used to insert a hole through to the bottom surface.

Screw
In this tutorial the shank and round head of a slotted screw are constructed. There is no need to construct the whole screw as only the head is visible when the whole pencil case is assembled. Uses 4 sketched, 3 extrusions, and a rounded edge.
