Annual Trip to France

France trip 28/06 – 02/07 2010 - Normandy , Paris and EuroDisney.

World War 2 tank
Our trip began at midnight on Sunday 27th June as 41 pupils and 5 members of staff boarded the coach that would take us to France . It was an overnight journey to Portsmouth for our rather long crossing to Caen , North France .

We arrived in Caen on Monday afternoon and headed straight for the 360 degree cinema in Arromanches. This cinema shows a film of archive footage from World War II and shows some of the key places that we wouldl visit during our stay.

From there we continued to the hotel where we stayed for two nights. As the hotel was close to the beach, the evening was spent doing work and playing games on the beach.

The next day was very busy and we visited many sites of interest in the Normandy area of France . We saw British cemeteries and monuments to all the soldiers who died in World War II. We stopped for a picnic lunch in a town called Bayeux were we also visited its famous tapestry. In the evening we played football and rounders on the beach and enjoyed an ice cream!

On Wednesday we traveled to Paris where we enjoyed a boat ride along the river Seine after lunch and saw a lot of the famous sights of Paris , such as the Louvre and Notre Dame Cathedral. It was a very hot day in Paris so after that we went to the Louvre gardens to enjoy a drink and some shade! In the evening we went for a meal in a local restaurant near the Arc de Triomphe and from there we went to the Eiffel tower where we enjoyed a great view of Paris as the sun was setting.

The final day was spent in Disneyland Paris. It was a really sunny day and everyone enjoyed the rides. Some even went more than once on the same ride! At four o'clock we all watched the parade of Disney characters and then had a few more hours to buy some souvenirs and presents. From there we headed to Calais and took the Channel Tunnel to Dover . After another long journey back home, we arrived back at 7am with all the parents waiting for us.

Here are some pupils' memories of the trip:-

The trip to France was really fun, although the bus was really long! The Eiffle Tower was an amazing experience, the boat was really good too, but when it rocked I felt dizzy!! The rooms were ok and I liked who I shared my room with. The food was also really nice, but we ate too much bread!!

The day I enjoyed the most on the France trip was when we went to Paris to see the Eiffel tower. I enjoyed it because it was good fun going all the way to the top, and seeing the view of Paris. I also really enjoyed the day we went to Disneyland and spent the day with my friends, and enjoyed the rides and meeting the Disney characters.

School Trip to France 2009
In the tunnels

In July 2009
, a mixed group of Ysgol Rhiwabon students from years 7,8 and 9, embarked on the latest of our annual visits to France.

The party left school at midnight on Thursday, and arrived in France at about 10.00am, local time, the following morning.

The Eiffel Tower

Friday
and Saturday involved a visit to the Vimy Ridge Canadian War Memorial, which included tours of the preserved First World War trenches and tunnels, a visit to a typical French village, and visits to French shops.

On Sunday
the group travelled to Paris, and enjoyed, amongst other things, a boat ride on the Seine, a trip to the Eiffel Tower, and tea in a "posh" French restaurant.

After
spending Sunday night in a hotel close to Eurodisney, everyone spent the whole day inside the theme park, until the coach arrived at about 6.30pm to start the long journey home.

Here are some pupils' memories of the trip:-

On our trip to France in July, we visited lots of monuments like the Eiffel tower and l’arc de triomphe . It was an amazing trip overall it was fun and lively and we were always doing something. We went to Disneyland on the last day as well, the rides were good and we got free fast tracks. Our trip to France was one of the highlights of 2009 for me.
Cameron Doolan, 90

When we went to France, we visited lots of different places. We went up the Eiffel Tower and visited l’arc de triomphe. We all had lots of fun and really enjoyed it. At night, after we had our tea at the youth hostel, we always played games like rounders and football. On the last day we went to Disneyland, we went on lots of rides and had loads of fun. I enjoyed the trip to France a lot and I would love to go again.

Years 7, 8 and 9 trip to France 2008.

June 5th – 10th 2008 The Somme, Paris and Disneyland , France
Our trip began at midnight on Thursday 5th June as 62 pupils and 7 members of staff boarded the coach that would take us to France. It was a long overnight journey to the port of Dover for our short crossing to Calais. We arrived in Calais on Friday morning, and headed straight for Cité Europe, a huge supermarket and shopping centre. From there we continued to the centre where we stayed for two nights. The first evening was very wet, so we stayed in and did some French language work and learnt about the First World War and trench warfare.

The next day was very busy and we visited many sites of interest in the Somme area of France. We saw British cemeteries and monuments to all the soldiers who died in World War 1. We stopped for a picnic lunch in a town called Albert and went in search of postcards. At Beaumont Hamel we had a tour of the battlefield and trenches used in the First World War. In the evening we had a treasure hunt and music quiz, and Mr Nuttall and Mr. Erlandson tried to convince us that they were psychic!

Disneyland
On Sunday we travelled to Paris and had a tour of the city in the coach. We enjoyed a boat ride along the river Seine after lunch and got to see a lot of the famous sights of Paris, such as the Louvre and Notre Dame cathedral. Then we went up to the Sacré Coeur, spent some time in Montmartre and went for a meal in a local restaurant. From there we went to the Eiffel tower where we enjoyed a great view of Paris.

The final day was spent in Disneyland Paris. It was a really sunny day and everyone enjoyed the rides. Some even went more than once on the same ride! At four o'clock we all watched the parade of Disney characters and then had a few more hours to buy some souvenirs and presents. From there we headed to Calais and took the ferry to Dover. After another long journey back home, we arrived back at 6am with all the parents waiting for us.

Here's what Kate Edwards, form 8-0 thought of the trip:-

It was my first time going to France and to be honest I was only going for Euro Disney and to hang out with my mates. When we got there and saw all of the historical sites from WW1, it was really interesting and surprisingly fun. In the evening, we played games and messed around and I really enjoyed it.

My overall favourite part would have to be Euro Disney. I love roller coasters and we went on the Indiana Jones ride four times! The bus we travelled in was fab, it was so comfy.

When we went up the Eiffel tower everyone looked as if they were literally crawling on the floor it was that big, and we only went to the second floor! Overall I really enjoyed the trip - apart from waking up at 7! I'm going again next year!
