The study of a modern foreign language encourages practical communication and creativity. An insight into foreign culture and civilisation fosters positive attitudes towards speakers of foreign languages and promotes respect for other cultures.


The skills developed in language learning are valuable in many careers such as broadcasting, teaching, secretarial work and all levels of management.Many universities offer a variety of courses with a modern foreign language which open opportunities for work within the EU.


At Key Stage 3, 4 and post 16 there are opportunities to use languages learnt here in school in real situations. There are regular French trips to Normandy and Paris for our younger students. Advanced students have an opportunity to go to Brittany and even do some school work there! Visits to universities, cinema and theatre trips are also organised.

The study of a language here at Ysgol Rhiwabon is a vibrant learning experience and we are proud of our achievements in national examinations.
